Paul Ryan's Going To Hate Seth Meyers' Response To His Email

Seth Meyers is not buying House Speaker Paul Ryan’s (R-Wis.) lip service.

The congressman’s office wrote to “Late Night” in response to a segment that aired last week. During the piece, Meyers called out Ryan for displaying an astonishing amount of hypocrisy about passing the GOP health care bill.

“Everything that Paul Ryan claimed to hate about the Obamacare process in 2009, he’s doing now,” Meyers said after playing a series of clips showing Ryan criticizing President Barack Obama and the passage of the Affordable Care Act.

The congressman’s office emailed “Late Night” to take issue with the segment.

“And unlike Republicans and their health care bill, we actually read the whole email,” Meyers said.

Mayers said he “genuinely appreciated” the response, would love to have Ryan on the show, but did not agree with the letter. So he went point by point in showing why.

Trevor Noah: 13 White Guys Will Decide Women's Health Care

Trevor Noah was astounded that Republican representatives who voted last week to repeal Obamacare hadn’t read the bill and were dodging town hall meetings to avoid the fallout. He was also stunned that Rep. Raul Labrador (R-Idaho) told angry constituents that “nobody dies because they didn’t have access to health care.”

But what really had the “Daily Show” host fired up was the “sausage-y” team of 13 white guys who were tapped to hammer out health care details, including what’s “best” for women.

“This whole thing will go a lot faster if women aren’t around nagging and menstruating all over the bill. Dude power!” Noah, taking on the imagined dude persona of these guys, said.

Noah then invited correspondent Michelle Wolf to share her thoughts.

It just “doesn’t look like a panel that protects women,” Wolf said. “That looks like the panel that says, ‘Well, she drowned, guess she wasn’t a witch. Let’s throw in another one!’”

Wolf was surprised that the panel couldn’t find a single woman to participate, but somehow managed to dig up two Mormons.

“Which is weird for Mormons,” Wolf said, “cuz normally they want extra women.”

Jimmy Kimmel Slams GOP With The Least Sincere Apology Ever

Jimmy Kimmel returned to television for the first time since last week, when he shared the story of his infant son Billy’s surgery for a heart condition

Billy is doing well, Kimmel said as he thanked viewers for donating to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles to help other sick babies.

Although millions tuned in to “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” last Monday and watched clips online of the host turning his son’s crisis into a plea for Americans of all political leanings to unite for health care, he soon found himself slammed by conservatives.

“I cannot count the number of times I’ve been called an ‘out-of-touch Hollywood elitist creep,’” Kimmel said on Monday night’s program, adding he “kind of appreciates” the insult.

“When I was a kid, we had to drink the powdered milk because we couldn’t afford the liquid,” Kimmel said. He added that on rare trips, his family would smuggle their dog into motel rooms to avoid paying a $2 pet fee.

“My dream was to become an out-of-touch Hollywood elitist,’” Kimmel said. “And I guess it came true.”

Then, Kimmel delivered a scathing apology to his critics:

“I’d like to apologize for saying that children in America should have health care. It was insensitive. It was offensive, and I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me.”

Kimmel was also joined by Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.), who wants a new health care plan to pass “the Jimmy Kimmel test” and provide services for babies during the first year of life.

See Kimmel’s full monologue and the interview with Cassidy above.

This award-winning photographer’s camera kit is enormous

Bill Frakes’ camera kit is massive, and it’s not simply for back-up purposes. At the weekend’s Kentucky Derby, for example, he used pretty much all of it, setting up the cameras all around the racetrack.

Wolf Blitzer: Sally Yates 'Basically Crushed' Ted Cruz

CNN’s Wolf Blitzer didn’t beat around the bush when describing the now-viral confrontation between Sen. Ted Cruz and former acting Attorney General Sally Yates.
“She basically crushed him,” Blitzer said on “The Situation Room” on Monday.
“I was going to say, ‘Sen. Cruz, you met your match,’” Dana Bash, the network’s chief political correspondent, replied. “But ‘crushed him’ is your word, and I think that’s just fine.”
Bash said Cruz was trying to play “legal gotcha,” but Yates got the better of him by citing the Constitution.
Cruz “is a very very smart guy, but he met his match,” Blitzer added.

Cool, Gutsy Sally Yates Is The New Queen Of The Twitterverse

Former Acting Attorney General Sally Yates’ testimony before a Senate Judiciary subcommittee transfixed America on Monday, and Twitter erupted in praise for her unshakeable defense of the law, her unwavering moral compass — and especially her deft takedown of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas).
Tweets praised Yates’ straightforward, clear-eyed recounting of her alerts to the Trump administration that former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn could be vulnerable to blackmail by the Kremlin because of his talks with Russian officials — and her decision that Donald Trump’s first travel ban was unlawful.

Concerning the travel ban, Cruz asked Yates if she knew of any other time in history when the U.S. attorney general refused to defend a policy that had been approved by its Office of Legal Counsel — which is what Yates was fired for. No, Yates conceded, but she added, “I’m also not aware of a situation where the OLC was advised not to tell the attorney general” until after an executive order was launched.
Some tweets hailed Yates’ cool, intelligent face-off with Republican men as inspirational. Others pleaded with her to run for office. Actor and activist George Takei noted that she could be America’s future leader.
A few were frustrated and angry by the men grilling her — and frequently cutting her off — trying to “mansplain” issues to their “superior.”
